Below you will find a copy of the homework policy that was sent home with your child at the beginning of the school year. It is important that you and your child take time to read this document thoroughly. We have included a pdf file as well in case you are in need of another hard copy. Thank you for working hard to help your child understand his or her homework responsibilities.
Homework Policy
2014-2015
I believe that homework always serves one of the following purposes:
1. to reinforce or give practice in something learned that day
2. to prepare for participation in a lesson or activity the following day
3. to evaluate concepts and how well a student can apply what has been taught.
The following is a list of expectations and information about students’ homework this year. Each of these expectations will help promote students’ individual responsibility for their own work and will also help set standards for the quality of their work.
-Homework is due the day after it is assigned unless it is a project, in which case a due date will be given. Reading logs are due every Friday.
-Typically homework will be assigned Monday –Thursday. In addition to assigned homework, students are expected to read for a minimum of 30 minutes per night and complete their reading log. It is important that a parent or guardian signs the log nightly.
-Students should use their agenda books to record their homework assignments daily. Recording this information and turning in all assignments on time is to be the responsibility of the student (not the parent or the teacher).
-Students are expected to do their best work, be neat, and work on their own. If perhaps a student falls short, the teacher reserves the right to ask that the assignment be redone.
-There are consequences for students who do not complete a homework assignment and those who turn in homework late. Parents will be informed weekly of the number of assignments missed during the week through the Friday Folder. Late homework will be accepted only one day late for now. However, as the year progresses late homework will not be accepted!
-Homework Hoopla homework passes can be earned each week. A homework hoopla pass is earned when a student has turned all in of his/her assignments for the week complete and on time. (Math Rules will be discussed during 2nd quarter. This is not their nightly Math homework Assignment). A homework Hoopla pass may not be used for a nightly homework assignment. If a student uses a pass for his/her reading log, it is still expected they fulfill the nightly reading requirement of 30 minutes.
